Recommend me a Router please...

Hi guys!

Getting cable on Saturday. Just looking for a good, solid router with solid firewall support (arnt we all). I hear good about Lynksys.

I have the BEFSR41 but i'd recommend the Linksys BEFSX41

coldzero, you know how much it cost to keep a computer running 24/7?

netgear (the new ones) and linksys routers are good. avoid dlink, and im not sure about belkins.

As Far as Wired Router Goes.

The main difference between the Entry level Cable/DSL Routers is the Firewall "Filtering" system, and number, range etc. of ports that can be opened through the Hardware Firewall.

If you are a gamer, and or use applications that need ports opening, it is an issue you have to look at.

If you need special ports opening for Server, VPN, etc. You have each targeted Router to make sure that it can keep these ports Open.

If you want in general more elaborate Router with better VPN, and SPI capacities you have to look at the Top Models of SMC, Linksys, and Netgear. Each Brand has a higher level hardware for about $120

Otherwise I would go with the lowest price, and the decor

-Issues with setting up xbox live
-Comes with powere adapter from different country (must get your own standard 12v 1.1 amp)

Other than that this thing is fantastic. I just got mine today and am using it as we speak.

It doesn't cost much, especially if its a low powered one, which is all you need for smoothwall.

Unless you consider you need another huge computer. A lot of firewall/routers from good manufacturers use much less space and still have many useful features.

hmm i wouldn't think it matters at all for a non wireless router. they should all perform the same and have a good firewall. try to look for a gigabit if there cheap, and if not just get the cheapest one you can find. i've always used linksys and loved their products.
