Recommend me a nice Stereo Amp + Speakers! Please :)

Well the title basic says it all,
I want a nice stereo setup for pure music listening pleasure.

I was looking around but I don't know about audio equipment much.
Brands that I can find where I live:

B&W, Infinity, JBL, Canton, MS - for speakers

and Rotel, Nad, Marantz, Yamaha, and few others for amplifiers.

-----
I'd like to keep the price bellow $1200-$1500. I am not an American so prices are higher than in the US here, and I can't order online, so bare in mind, I pay 20% more when calculating...

-----

My room currently is around 15 or 20 square meters but I plan to move to a bigger room, maybe 35 - 40 square meters.

----

Music I favor: mostly rock (The White Stripes, Cake, Live, Tool, u2, System of a down, Muse, Marilyn Manson etc...) sometime metal but nothic chaotic. Maybe some Paul Oakenfold, Underworld, Carl Cox...

----

Thanks

First of all, go hang out at avsforum.com, hometheaterspot and hometheaterforum.

Recommending audio equipment, especially speakers is next to impossible. Once you get to a certain level, it's totally subjective.
All of the brands you list make good equipment. You may want to add:

Denon, Pioneer Elite, and Onkyo to your receiver list.

For speakers, check out Paradigm, PSB, Axiom, Ascend, Onix, Totem...well the list goes on and on.

I'm happy with my KlipschKLF-30's I've got a Marantz A/V receiver that's ok for listening to music, but I really liked the sound of my roommate's old Denon stereo receiver (I can't remember the model number) for music listening.

The Klipsch's are nice, but they don't give as warm a sound as some other speakers so you might want to keep that in mind.

Thanks for the sites recommendations MustISO. I'll check them out.

vmrao - I am in Macedonia.

Savij - no Klipsch around here.

I would look at Rotel for the electronics if what you listed are the only choices. With Nad coming in second. Rotel makes some great stuff at great prices. You should be able to pick up a seperate pre-amp and amp and have money left over for speakers.

If possible just bring a CD or three you know well to the store that sells the Rotel stuff (or whatever you decide to get) and try a few different pairs of speakers with them. For quality ones you will almost certainly be looking at bookshelf speakers in that price range, but thats not so bad. There are some great ones out there.

mmm B&W. My dad has some Kef 702's I think. They sound great, and only cost him about $1400. They did retail for ~6000 I think. Uses a adcom amp that cost like $800? Lots of other nice things. Anyway, Kef's are great. I don't know much about home stereo. Good luck finding something nice.

I decided on:

Rotel RA-985 BX - 100W amp - (660 euro)

Canton Ergo 92DC - 920 euro

The canton sound much better than the B&W 604s2 series. The Canton seem to have more rich sound, with more defined bass...more dinanic tone, unlike the B&W which....hmm although looks nicer, it is kind of frigid?

Anyway, what about a CD player. I can pick a cheap 200 euro Marantz, or a Rotel RCD 971 model for 460 euro.

seems I got something completely different:

+ NAD C160 PreAmplifier
+ NAD C270 Amplifier
+ NAD C521i - CdPlayer
+NAD C240 Tuner
+ Van den Hul D-102 III Interconnects (2 x 2 feet (60cm))
+ Van den Hul CS - 122 HYBRID speaker cable silver (2 x 2 meters)

and the speakers:
Tannoy Saturn S10 - 200W, 10" middle, 1" dual concentric tweeter and 10" woofer

----
totalled at 3150 euro ($3650 us)

if someone has offer hosting I can show some images

🙂 The sound is fabolous! Terrific!
Open and wide vocals - defined guitars, deep bass! I love em

oh well 🙂
If I did that, I'd want to upgrade and so on, now I just got top of the line 😀 from both Nad and Tannoy and Van den Hal (top of the ordinary humans terms, I know there are $10,000+ speakers and amps)

Lmao, I did pretty much what you did when I got most of my stereo/HT stuff. Started with a budget of $1,500 or $2,000...about 2 months and another $14,000 or so and I was done. I went a bit over budget on that...lol
