Recommend me a new TV

My current TV is screaming like a banshee from the picture and it's out of warranty. Looking for some insight on make/model of a good quality HDTV to take its place in the $1-2k range.

Thanks in advance.

I know you didn't ask, but I'd look at a plasma. From every rear projection I've seen they suck donkey balls when you're off-centre if you're looking at the cheapish ones (like $2k range). Plus, they're farking huge and heavy and generally just suck. Now, they can have nice picture quality (as long as you use perfectly calibrated instruments to ensure you're dead centre on the screen, and their price for size is good, but definitely look into a plasma.

I bought my Hitachi 51SWX20b (2002 model) from here. I saved a boat-load of money. Yes they are refurbished, but you can buy an extended warrenty on them too. Hitachi's are so reliable, they are the only ones that offer that.

HTH.

get a dlp/lcd projection/projector/plasma. This is coming from a guy that sold TVs for 2 years. If you can spare an entire room to this, a 2k projector should do nicely.

Don't get a plasma, a $2,000 is going to suck. LCD and DLP are nice if you can't control the light in the room. If you want a good picture, CRT is still very hard to beat.
