Recommend me a new GPS

Garmin's decline in quality is very disappointing, but the Nuvi has finally worn out its welcome. It should not need 10 straight minutes to do a search and then find a store in southern California when I am in Norcal. That's when it finds things. I've lost track of the number of times I have punched in the name of a store in a city and it couldn't find it. All I can do I search by address, but not by name.

I am looking for a GPS with fast searches and lots of points of interest. Recommendations?

Not to mention the constant monthly fees. Honestly, I use my Droid exclusively as my GPS nav unit and it's decent, but have you looked at the newish Motorola units, OP? Looks like the reviews are generally favorable at Amazon.

If you like to tinker/hack things, you might check out certain underground GPS forums before settling on a certain unit. I'm not allowed to link them since there is some less-than-legal content on these forums.
