Im looking to spend ~ 13k on a new car. The primary use for the car will be to drive me 60 miles a day on highway/traffic/work/grocery getter.

so far, the cars on my list are scion xa, toyota carolla, nissan sentra. any others recommend. thanks.

I've driven rental Pontiac Vibes and Toyota Matrices. Peppy and roomy--They're my first choice if I needed a small car. Buy used, of course 🙂

well that 5 yr warranty is a must for me. can those cars be had for < 15k? also, since I will be financing, interest rates are usesually not that good for used vehicles.

I drove the Hyundai Elantra and really like it. If you get the 5-Door GLS you get the better suspension of the GT. It also has alot more pick-up than the low-end Civics. Front and side airbags standard. Plus you get the 5 year/60,000-mile basic warranty and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage.

I am looking hard at the 5-Door GLS w/ABS and Traction control, which comes in around $15k.

Impreza Sedan, quite a few options in that price range.

Used of course (2-4 year old), but they're great in the econobox category.

I love mine (1995, far less than $13K).

Viper GTS

One year old Crown Vic.

Nothing screams econobox like a Crown Vic!! 😕

Built like a truck AFAIK. They get decent mileage on HWY.

~26MPG, while very decent for a V-8, certainly is too low for an econobox. They ARE reliable though.
