Recommend me a new cellphone!

A friend is visiting for asia, and I want him to get me a new cellphone! which one should I get? I currently have the sony ericcson k700i.

Prefer it to be small/compact.

somehow my k700i lags soo bad... like when I try to make a text message, the screen can just hang for a couple of seconds.
