Recommend me a new camera?

I'm looking at buying a new camera in the next month or so, and I'm curious what people around here like. Anand recommends the canon A590is, and so does the FAQ thread, so that's what I'm leaning towards. Does anyone have other suggestions?

Also, where's a good place to get this thing?

Budget? What kind of stuff do you plan on shooting? Is it going to be a hobby or just to take snapshots? etc

Oh, and if you don't buy Nikon, your pictures are going to end up castadreadfullic.
 
Well, it's just gonna be a camera that I'll have with me and take random pictures with, nothing really demanding. I'd like to be able to mess around with settings, parameters, etc so the A590 seems to have lots of dials to twiddle with.
