I need to build a reasonably inexpensive machine, I was wondering if the H67(?) MB's are decent, ideally I'd like some reasonable form of on board graphics and be able to add a better card in the future if she decides to game more again. Any suggestions?

I don't really know how much you would be spending but here are a few of the cheapest H67 motherboards that are available. I've added H61 boards into consideration as well if you intend to pay less for some additional features that the H67 has but the H61 does not.

These boards are better paired with non K type SB processors which would have the Intel HD2000 that is sufficient for basic computer usage.

Let’s just clear up a couple things.
P67: Most people would call these gaming boards they will allow you to overclock the processor’s core clock speed. They do not have any graphics ports so you must use a dedicated video card on them.
H67: These are main stream and media boards. They will allow you to overclock the CPU’s graphics. If you are going to get an H67 board check which ports the board comes with to make sure that you get the ports you want. Also on this chipset the on processor graphics will support dual display.
H61: These are the basic and barebones boards. They will have the lowest cost but there will be some people that are looking for the lowest cost board, the H61 chipset based board will have the lowest cost but also the fewest level of features.
Overall there is a wide mix of product to fit the needs of the person who is going to use them.

For gaming you need a better graphics card more than a better sound card.

Onboard graphics is usually not sufficient for gaming. If you want good onboard graphics, you need to get an Intel Core i5 2500K or Core i7 2600K CPU. Any other CPU will have lesser graphics. Thus, it is cheaper (for gaming) to get a lesser CPU and get a cheap graphics card.

Older Intel and current AMD platforms can be cheaper as well, compared to the latest Intel platform unless you go with a Core i3 and H61 chipset board.

for the time being the only gaming will be facebook stuff. Although Guild Wars 2 could change that hence being able to add a respectable card in the future. Thanks for the prompt reply intel guy.
