Recommend me a low power laser printer

So from another thread a few months ago, it seems my Brother HL-4150CDN power spikes so bad that it trips the UPS every time it starts up to print. Computer stays on but my monitor shuts off a few secs and the UPS looks like it reboots. I like the printer and all but I don't want it to kill my machine over time and it's too bulky to move to another room in the house (I could throw it in the basement but that's a huge hassle.) In doing some research on specs, it seems the printing power is 560watts (that's probably not even the surge amount!) whereas I saw a Samsung low end laser that says printing of 290watts. I don't really want to get the Samsung but it got me thinking that if I could replace my laser with one that has a much lower initial surge, everything could work out. So here are my requirements:

1) I print pretty rarely so inkjets and the like won't work.

2) Color is a must. I mostly print study sheets that I made for my students and these were designed in color to help them study. These sheets are also printed on card stock and I currently manual duplex (the auto duplex gets them stuck in the printer.) I don't think there's a printer out there that doesn't cost thousands or more that can auto duplex those cards without jamming but if there is, that's a huge bonus. :)

3) Not too bothered by noise/weight/etc. Less is of course better but not priority.

4) I have a separate scanner so no need for copy/scan/etc. functions.

5) Network connectivity is not all that important because I only have one computer I print from anyway.

I heard some stuff about LED printers that draw low power in my research so if anyone knows more about that, I'm up for that too. Thanks!

There's no such thing as a low power laser printer. The high power draw is to melt toner onto paper...not powering a laser. Why not take the printer off the UPS...duh?

It's not on the UPS, duh. It's plugged into an outlet on the opposite wall. I'm talking about relatively low power (i.e. that crappy Samsung printer I saw says it uses half of what my Brother uses for printing. I can't imagine that's the only laser out there that does.)

No doubt that your observation is correct, but we don't classify laser printers by power draw, so there really is no easy way to answer your question. Example, I have an old HP LJ4000. I never turn it on unless I want to use it, and that is rarely, so power draw is not really a consideration.

Most modern laser printers go into sleep mode after a period of inactivity and only draw full power when actually printing. This feature has been around a long time. My LJ 2200 (old printer) does this and I'm not a bit concerned about how much electricity it uses.

Neither am I but it looks like the OP is having trouble with a Brother tripping a breaker of some kind. Admittedly I don't have any suggestions but I don't think that there is one, particularly of the color variety, that draws less than 400-500W (3-4Amp). I would be worried a bit of too low power consumption for proper fusing of the toner and paper in fact. High power consumption just goes hand-in-hand with laser types but it's got me curious especially the mention of the LED laser so I'll check it out.

I seem to recall my APC UPS manual specifically stating not to attach a laser printer to one of the battery backed outlets on the device. I believe other manufacturers have the same stipulation.

It might be easier to simply plug the laser printer into a good surge suppressor and not worry about printing during a power outage.

If you do find such a laser printer, please report back because I would be interested.

Will do. To clarify, my laser printer is attached to an ac outlet on the opposite wall of the room that the UPS is on. Power consumption is of no concern to me but yes, every time it starts up to print, something trips and my Cyberpower reboots. My old APC never did that so I'm actually considering dumping this Cyberpower and getting another APC to replace it. I'm not sure if my TV/monitor is getting damaged each time it trips as for some reason the Cyberpower keeps the PC running but the monitor (also plugged into battery outlet) shuts off and takes 10 secs to come back on.
