i got my archos that i use in the gym -- the problem is the heaphones i have now are horrible -- extremely low consider the noise in the gym.

the thing is i watch tv/music and to me noise quality isn't an issue i just need to hear what im watching. i have a pair of phillips shs391 headphones that are pretty crappy...

cliffs:
i dont want to spend a lot money
i dont really care much about quality since i watch movies --
i dont want to look like im controlling air traffic (i.e. nothing big)

thanks,
don r

what's that supposed to mean?

he is clearly suggesting you two pairs of nice headphones that cost less than $20, i don't see how you could not understand that.

anyway, i stand by his suggestions as well. both are good, i'd go for the koss ones though. headbangers may be another option.

It may not be so much the headphones but perhaps the fact that your archos simply cant put out the wattage necessary to pump those headphones at loud volumes. Perhaps you need to consider a pocket amp instead.

Shure e4c

Earplug headphones, their secondary function is to plug your ears and block out external noises, even with music off you can barely hear anything.

I doubt you will find any headphones that will make your ears bleed at 1/2 volume. You are limited by the amp on the archos.

I find it amusing you just want them to be loud and don't care how they sound. That will be a comical result.

I'm confused - with these requirements, why are you asking? It would be easier to just walk into a retail store and grab something, wouldn't it?

Line-out on source -> amplifier -> headphones

I also recommend canalphones for superior isolation.

Well... there was cheaper models on their homepage, the e2cs for one. Might even be able to find the e2cs on sale if need be. But if you go too cheap they won't be worth the money you pay for them.

spark plugs are the suck, the marshmallows are similarly priced and much better.

if you just want something loud and don't care much about sound quality, the headbanger's would probably meet your needs.

It makes absolutely no sense to amp a pair of crappy cans that came with his mp3 player. edit: crappy Philips headphones rather :p

For under $20, as already said, go for the Koss KSC75. They're the greatest headphone bargain you'll find, and they sound better than Bose Triports (though that's not saying much ;)). If you need isolation, the JVC Marshmallows should fit the bill.

for loudness, you want something with high sensitivity,

since most are roughly the same, your second option for higher volume is to block out background noises

in which case, the best option would be the cheapest (in-ear) canal phones. sony has a pair for 20-30$
