hello,

laptops main use: office, internet and music via headphone out.

i wan't a laptop for university. i wan't a 15" screen, i don't care if it's widescreen as it's mainly for work not movies (does widescreen help with anything over then movies or photo editing?), 802.11g wireless, 512ddr, fast intel processor (intel b/c mainly for business aps, but not too expensive), and good battery life. i've heard good things about averatec. can anyone make a recommendation for my needs? thanks.

edit: also as quiet a keyboard as possible and not too heavy

budget = about $1000 no more hopefully less
widescreen centrino looks like a good combo for producitivity and battery life

Are you currently matriculated?

If you are, check with your university and see what educational discounts they are offering. They often offer such deals for laptops from brands like Dell, IBM, etc.

Best Buy has this Toshiba ???S111 for $500 after $330 rebates. It is Celeron M. Just add another 256Mb of Ram and a wireless card, you'll be set.

Check out the new Sony FS Series. It looks promising.

Check out the Gateway Centrino series, you can see them @ Best Buy. They have several models on the high-side of $1000 that are very reasonable. Your only other option for a Centrino 15" that I know of is HP's new ze2000(?) series, check out their website. It has a 15" XGA and can be had well-loaded for around $1000. Also, if you don't mind a smaller screen, the HP dv1000 (14" widescreen) is an awesome performer for the money and can also be for around $1000. If you are interested in the dv1000, there will be an indepth review appearing at LaptopLogic.com (see sig) towards the end of the weekend, courtesy of moi 😉. Please write back if you have any more questions.
