recommend me a kitchen knife set

I want to buy my friend a knife set as a birthday present/housewarming gift. What would you recommend in the neighbor hood of $50-125? I want to get the set from Amazon because I have a $30 certificate from them. What would you recommend for a good starter set for a single guy living on his own who is a good cook and cooks meals from scratch very often?

i got a nice farberware drop forged knife set for like 90 bucks at sears. has your standard knife block, 6 steak knives, cleaver, shears, and like 6 big knives w/sharpener. so far they are great!!!
