Recommend me a HSF

Nocturnal

I need something to help overclock my 2500+ Barton. It is a retail chip and I'm using the retail HSF. I want something huge, loud, whatever, good enough to cool this baby. I need more CPU power out of this CPU. I want to hit at least 2.0GHZ. I'd prefer hitting the average... 2.3GHZ? Thanks.

For air cooling SI-97 paired with highest CFM Delta fan (compatible) you can find.

XP-120 doesn't do Athlon XP 😉

you can get a complete water cooling system for $100 from evercool... maybe even less on ebay.. and i come with a vga cooler and a second radiator...

Second that... Or you can use one of the Vantec Tornado fans on the cooler... I actually have a 92mm Tornado that I never used. Picked it up with the Thermalright SLK-948U cooler, which I replaced with the XP-120...

I have an xp2500 with a SI-97, Artic silver 5 and a Panaflo L1 fan (21db) OC'd to 2.2 with max temp of 38degC under load. Haven't tried farther and I have L1's for case cooling ( 5 total). Suppose if your system can handle it, you wouldn't have to get a screamer or at least get a fan control to keep noise down. I'd buy the SI-97 from SVC, bestbyte.net or coolerguys etc. whichever is cheaper.

edit to 21db? don't know cfm

The Zalman 7700 Cu actually weighs more, but yes, the ASUS is a monster. To quote the OP: "I want something huge, loud, whatever........" I can't help but think that this is a perfect match 😉

at one time i said this exact same thing... that i didn't care about noise. after about 4 months with a 80mm tornado in my case... even with a fan controller... i couldn't handle it anymore 😛

I have an SI-97 and its great, i bought it to replace a mid grade HSU that didnt work at all, I have paired it with a high speed panaflo. with that and my fan control i have maximum cooling and noise control. Thats my vote!! its also very light!

Socket A/462 Barton compatible.........

From the review, that HSF is worse than the Intel stock HSF, and a hell of a lot louder. Why would anyone pay for this, unless soley to rice their PC?
