a good, easy firewall would be nice too.

wingate works, but it's so hard to configure and figure out 100%. i was wondering if anyone has had good success with another program. thx.

ICS is crap for me. i've gotten it to work with pppoe before, but this time around, i'm just too frustrated. i wish it was just that easy. wingate is freakin easy, but the interface just blows. u gotta either know or read the whole manual & faqs to configure it completely.

Winproxy works fine, but I think the only good way to go is either a Linux box or a DSL router.

best proxy servers to use, in my opinion, would be Winproxy or WinRoute. i use winroute personally, because u have to pay for winproxy. but if u pay for it (or get a crack for it) it's really very good. supports everything. winroute is also good cuz it's a firewall too.

if you're looking for some freeware, try AnalogX or SpoonProxy. Those 2 freeware proxies give a lot of packet loss in games (or at least they did for me). so if yur a hardcore gamer like me, then go for Winroute or Winproxy. but if all u do is surf the net and email, then the freeware should be fine.

good luck

Another great product is Sygate.I've used it for a few years and it's always been extremely simple, very stable and puts almost zero load on the box doing the sharing.

You are, however, better off to get a hardware router (SMC Barricade, Linksys, etc. - Lots of posts on them in this forum). No dependence on any PC and they offer more features and higher performance.

LOL, by this time there is a recommendation for a lot of Proxy software, which brings us, back to square one.

Let me try another approach.

You can choose form the few free software solution that is available (look at the list in my previous posting).

If you have to buy any of these packages, it make much more sense to spend few $$$ more and to buy a ?Real? Router.

Want to know what is a real Router look here:

Hub, Switch, Router, DHCP, LAN, WAN, NAT, etc.

ICS sucks.....you get what you paid for....which is nothing. I like SyGate, used it 2 years ago, it worked great and I never had a problem with it. Now I have a router since having to leave my computer on all night drive me crazy.
