recommend me a good (preferrably free) cd/dvd burning software

i currentlty have nero 7 and can't even install it onto vista without it giving me problems. i don't want to spend money on nero 8. are there any free or cheap alternatives that is similar to nero and have given you a good experience. i often use it for burning cd's and a couple of dvd's now and then
