Recommend me a good end-of-the-world apoc movie.

I love this genre, especially when it's done somewhat intelligently & realistically as to how the people, organizations, government, and world react.

I haven't seen much of this genre lately. Anything decent I should check out? I've seen:

-Contagion
-Children of Men
-I Am Legend
-28 Days/Weeks Later
-what was that shaky cam movie about a godzilla-like creature 4 years ago?
-Day After Tomorrow/Independence Day/Armageddon (These are corny, but enjoyable)

Anything else?

There's a new one out called "The Divide" that I was looking forward to, but the general consensus is that it's pretty bad.

I am trying to remember others, but I'll have to come back.

Reign of Fire was pretty good. Mathew McConaughey was pretty awesome in it.

The original movie adaptation of the Andromeda Strain is always worth a watch.

There's a bunch of disease-based ones from the 90s on Netflix...they're always good for a laugh.

The shaky cam movie you're referring to, Cloverfield, is not an apocalypse type movie.

That's what it was. While it's not a strict apoc, it's in similar taste as to something/event wreaking havoc in the society.

Just started Skyline on Netflix. Only about 30 mins in so not sure how good it will be but it seems to fit the genre so far.

I'll check out The Road for sure. Decent rating on RT, and not too old (2009).

Anything else? Skyline and Battle LA, they're both too much popcorn flicks like ID4/Armageddon.

Some of my favorite classic apocalyptic and post apocalyptic movies.
The Last Man on Earth (1964)
The Andromeda Strain (1971)
Planet of the Apes (1968)
A Boy and His Dog (1975)
Dr. Strangelove (1964)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) & (1978)
Mad Max series

Mad Max, of course :p

Corny but fun. ONLY get Max Max 2, aka The Road Warrior. Don't get the first Mad Max movie, it's terrible and you don't have to see it to understand the sequel anyway.

EDIT: Okay, the first movie is Mad Max, and the second is Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. I got mixed up. It's sort of like Rambo. You've got First Blood, then First Blood 2: Rambo.

Deep Impact is a pretty good movie too. Not the pinnacle of scientific accuracy, but at least more plausible than Armageddon and actually decent by Hollywood standards.

Since The Last Man on Earth and I am Legend are already up there, lets include the third movie based on that story:

The Omega Man

And lets not forget that same story inspired

(drumroll)

Night of the Living Dead
