I'm about to drive from NY to MS and then back. Everytime I move, I buy a new CD, but I'm not sure what to get this time.

I need your suggestions for some good music. I like alternative and classic rock and a little rap now than then.

Bands I like:
Stone Temple Pilots
Smashing Pumpkins
Jimi Hendrix
Blue Oyster Cult
Snoop Doggy Dog

Bands I don't like:
Tool
Radiohead
Complaining about my parents "rock"
Jay-Z

Give me your recommendations!

A new alt rock CD that has surprised me has been the latest from Evanescence. All of it is great. But like many people concerning Evanescence, you either like them or you don't. I thought their first CD was meh but this one is definitely much better. JMO

DRAGONFORCE!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though they are a very talented and gifted group of musicians. It takes a few listens to appreciate their music but you'll soon realize how amazing they are.

how can't you like radiohead and tool? they are my favorite bands... also if your really into the alt, you should listin to Bjork- Greatest Hits, or some Modest Mouse, The Postal Service, or Death Cab for Cutie

Hmm...a Henrix fan, eh?

Steely Dan - Aja
Foriegner - Greatest Hits
Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot

Also, the song "Lunch with Gina" from the "new steely dan" album "Everything Must Go" is the only really good song on the album - I reccomend getting it from iTunes.

Wow, I haven't heard of any of these bands that you people are talking about except for Steely Dan and Foriegner.

If you like them, odds are you'll also like Cherry Poppin' Daddies. The name is certianly rather provoking of a reaction, but it's some of the best swing you'll ever hear.

Just pick up "The Best of The Doors" 2 CD set and go. Some of the best driving music you will find.

I've already got some Doors going on. :)

I should burn through about 50CDs on this trip, so keep the opinions coming.

It takes a little time for the sound to get into your head but the Atlantic Rhythm and Blues, 1947-74 collection is most excellent for driving.

Also:

Libana - A Circle is Cast
Loreena McKinnett - Mask and Mirror

Daft Punk - Daft Club is really good, it's a remix CD of Daft Punk songs.

Make sure you check out the Muse and U2 albums I recommended earlier on in the thread; they rock :p.
