Recommend me a Fund for my traditional IRA

I just left the military and within the year I have to either cash out all of my money in the Military Thrift Savings Plan or transfer it to a traditional IRA.

Obviously the latter makes more sense and I am going to look into some index funds later on when i go to the bookstore.

However, in the mean time, recommend me some good ones if you have one....

Yep, you can have have the money transferred directly to an account at Vanguard (www.vanguard.com) and pay no trading fee to get the best S&P 500 index fund, VFINX.

If someone tries to promote Fidelity's S&P fund because it has a temporary expense fee reduction, it's a trap! Fidelity pulled that teaser scam a few years back then doubled their expense ratios once people put their money in.
