I need to capture and burn some hi-def video from a source with RCA-out (nothing illegal!). Recommend me a decent solution, not exorbitantly priced? Thanks.

Forgive the lack of a suggestion, but a question instead:

If it's HD, how could you be using RCA (I take that to mean yellow composite video connector and red+white audio connectors) input?

Is that what you're talking about?

I'd think that he means Component (Red, Green, + Blue connectors).

Weren't you able to do that with the ATI All-in-Wonder cards?
Or maybe I am thinking of the ATI TV Tuner cards?

That's why I'm asking, because I don't know if he means that, or, component like you said.

If he means component, then a Blackmagic Intensity Pro (you want Intensity Pro, not Intensity) would work.

I'm in the market for one of those myself....

Thanks for the replies.

Apparently, I don't know enough to ask the right questions!

Actually, what I need to capture is standard-def digital (pretty sure!). My source has composite + audio (Y-R-W), or component (R-G-B) connections. Forgive my ignorance, but what do I need to capture the video and audio?

Thanks again.

Well, that's another matter. If what you're talking about is grabbing like Over The Air (OTA) TV that comes freely, then you'd need an OTA tuner.

Or are you saying you have an OTA tuner already? If that's what you're saying, that you already have an OTA tuner, and that it has composite (YRW) and component (RGB+RW) on it, then you need a capture card.

Obviously component is preferred over composite basically always, but, for standard def, I'm not really sure how that matters.

Which is it you're wanting?

It depends entirely on whether the material you're intending to capture is HD or SD. If it's HD you need to capture stuff off of the component connections, but if it's SD the composite will be fine. The difference comes down to the fact that SD capture hardware is a great deal cheaper than HD capture hardware.
