Recommend me a compact point & shoot for <$300

$300 being the very top end and I'm getting this as a bday present.

I need a decent point & shoot. Needs to be sturdy and compact as I'll be carrying it in my side pocket 99% of the time. A decent sized LCD would be nice and a good flash (with quick recovery) is a must. This is mostly for facebook-style photos so I don't need anything fancy like video or high speed or ___. Just something that can take a sharp image with decent auto color balance in less than optimal lighting conditions and be sized down to a crisp 1600x1200. I don't have much of a brand preference, though I have had good experiences with Canon, Fuji, and Nikon.

TIA!

This looks decent: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120352

I should also point out this is going to see the most use in public areas with alcohol involved (bars, clubs, house parties, other social gatherings) and there will be bumping and possible dropping from time to time.

One of my friends has a Canon S90. Looked pretty nice, had manual controls that were pretty intuitive for a noob. Its pretty small in size too.

Edit: Apparently, its not <300$.
