Recommend me a book..

I don't have what you're looking for either, but I might suggest Shogun by James Clavell or The Company: A Novel of the CIA by Robert Littell. Both are long fiction that might work out based on what you're asking for.

In the past few months I've also read Life of Pi, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, and East of Eden and I think they were all excellent. Roots is really good if you've never read it.

Less interesting, but acceptable (especially for mothers, daughters, sister, etc.) was The Red Tent.

I'd skip on The Secret Life of Bees.

If length doesn't matter, go read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Voted as the #2 book that changed folks lives, it is a page turner (I couldn't put the darn thing down). Be advised though, you may likely mark your life by before and after you read this book. And it's not as "discoverish" the next few times you read it (and you will read it a few more times), so try to savor it the first time through.

I read an excerpt and it didn't seem good at all. I think I'll stick to my weighty Russian novels.

enders game is good

the one after it starts to get weird...and then weirder and weirder, but theyre a good read.

YES! Ender's Game is plain awesome. You should read the series. Skip the parallel series about Bean though. Orson Scot Card was just flogging a dead horse with those books. If you haven't already, read the Dune series.

Very good choice. Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead rank as my first and second favorite books respectively. Any Rand is my favorite author on the strength of those two books alone.
