Hey guys,

I'd like to get back into riding and exercising on my bike. I used to ride a lot 5 years ago prior to having an accident. I'd ride 3-4 times a week, pretty intense, and do like 30-50 km each time.

I don't want a road bike because I don't ride roads, more of a combination between street and park trails, mostly pavement though.

I'd love to have some kind of standard or hybrid bike. I'm pretty lost though as to what I should get, so I'd love some advice.

My budget is about $ 1000 give or take.

Nice, I test rode one of those at Wal-Mart the other day, the luggage rack and fairing are a big plus, but I'm still kinda on the fence...

So you're more interested in a cyclecross?

Don't think so, I don't ride anything that's off road, even the park trails are paved. I wouldn't mind a hybrid type bike though if I did want to take my bike to some real dirt trails etc, nothing extreme.

so... what sort of riding position do you want? upright?

i do know that where i worked this past summer, their bikes are outrageously comfy for good distances, and have a very upright riding position... not to mention they look great...

Aren't they rather expensive for what they are?

depends what you consider expensive... when i first posted the link on my internship thread, the prices were expensive... they however dropped pricing once they received their real totals overall for the bikes... their current lineup runs from 550 to 995... the 995 one is a 8 speed internal hub...

Nice bikes, they look quality, but I want something that I can ride more aggressively. I'd like something in between upright and leaning down.

Cyclecross is a combination cross country mountain biking and road bike. They generally have the riding style of a road bike, with tires that are "inbetween."

Example is Specialized Tricross:

I like Trek bikes, a bit pricey in some cases though but you can find them that fit your price range. Best to go to a dealer though and inspect them.
