I got my first CC about 2-3 years ago. I didn't have any debts, but since I had no credit history, and I paid a random internet service bill late in college which showed up on my credit report, I could only get a secured card through BofA. I deposited $500 and I used that card for a while. I used it occasionally and always paid the full balance at every billing cycle. A few months ago, maybe a year ago, they gave me back my deposit and it became a real (unsecured) card.

Three months ago I requested a credit limit increase to $2000 and was approved for it. My main goal is to build credit. The late bill from my stupid days is due to disappear from my credit report in March 2012 (7 year window lapses), so after that my credit report shouldn't have any negative items on it.

I want to get at least a couple more CC's. I still plan to use them only for stuff I can afford, and to always pay off the full balance each month. The reason I want more is to more easily segregate some of my expenses. I want one for going out and eating out, and another for all my work related expenses. The one I have right now I will keep for all other stuff, like occasional internet purchases and gadget purchases. I'm also doing this in anticipation of the debit card fees that some banks, like BofA, are planning to roll out soon.

Anyways, most of the above was totally irrelevant! Should I wait some time after the credit limit increase to 2K before getting any new cards? Should I apply for two new cards right away? How do you get those cards, do you have to request a specific limit, or do they automatically determine it for you?

Lastly, please recommend some cards that would be good to apply for. I don't really care for rewards stuff. I don't travel often and I don't have a car so anything airline or gasoline related wouldn't be of any use to me.

You don't plan to carry balances so APR is largely irrelevant and you likely wouldn't qualify for low APR cards anyways. Then you may as well get a rewards card(s), why not take free money? Just don't carry a balance. The Chase Freedom should be withing your grasp and has good rating categories that get 5% and 1% on everything else. Amex Blue Cash is nice at 3% at the grocery store, 2% in some categories and 1% on everything else but it may be a stretch for you. Another good option is joining an credit union. Penfed is very nice with very generous credit lines and is easy to join. Also take a look at your local credit unions. CU cards typically have lower interest rates and higher limits.

LOL. I can't believe you remember it was me who drew that. I liked how he kept on insisting that his crappy drawing was good.

Do we have any pics of him IRL? Maybe if I'm inspired enough I'll draw another.

Chase Freedom, Capital One Cash Rewards, or Amazon VISA (if you eat out a lot or buy a lot of stuff from amazon)

The american express line of cards are good as well like another poster mentioned, the only problem is AMEX isn't accepted everywhere. It's what caused me to switch from the AMEX Blue Cash to Charles Schwab VISA (which is going to end in October /sadface)
