I'm looking to spend up to $1100 but preferably less. I'm going to want windows vista and 2 gigs of ram. HP's DV2500 seems cool. Any other suggestions?

Do you want to play any games (if the answer is yes, ignore the following advice)? You could save money and get better battery life by going with integrated graphics.

Here are some discrete graphics options:
Asus A8Sc (8400M G - $1120): http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834220225
Asus A8Dc (8400M G - $809 AR - uses a Turion X2): http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834220236
Dell Inspiron 1420 (starts at ~$750, configurable with an 8400M GS): http://www.dell.com/content/pr...?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

The Asus F8 series, either with HD2600 or 8600m GT. 2.2Ghz C2D or 2.4, 1 gig ram, and 160GB hard drive. But at $20 for an extra gig it's not so rough.

I would like to play some games. I thought Dell Vostro was business only. I don't have a small business.

You don't need a business to order from the Small Business store from Dell. As for the Vostro, it does come with consumer grade dedicated GPUs.

Heh!

I wonder how much "business" loses because of this fake "small business" stuff...

Not your fault, dude! Lots of ppl *think* they can't buy Dell 'small business' computers! ;)

Why does it seem like Vostro is so much better value than the Inspiron?

Based on my interweb research it appears that small business really does require you to be a small business but most people get around it by lying...

Bah! It's just a marketing tactic... a title!

You don't have to be 'a business' to buy from the small/medium business part of the site.

As a matter of fact, if you read the small print, certain small/medium businesses cannot even buy from them...

Hello?!?!?!

Everything I am hearing about the Vostro is all good. It seems the best notebooks are made by Dell.

I wouldn't say that. The best notebooks are definitely not made by Dell.

I'll have to admit, the All Terrain Grade version is the nicest Dell lappy I've seen in the wild!

One of our vendors uses an ATG D630 to adjust the ladders in PLCs, and it's a GREAT looking machine - serial ports and all...

I was thinking about buying one, until I saw the price - plus, I wanted a multimedia machine, not a Swiss Army knife... ;)

I love my D630. It's built really well, has integrated biometric reader, great keyboard, pointer stick, serial port, auto brightness control...

I wish it had an led backlit screen (thinner) and less of a frame around the lcd (to make it smaller)... I initially bought an m1330 and it was a POS.

If only dell would make a non-ULV 12" business laptop... grrr
