recommend front brake pads

Seems like and idle question as I will just ask the parts store guy when I go get some.

I'm changing the front brakes this weekend on the Jeep. I have some good rotors ready, new stock OEM parts I got from a guy off CL. I want good pads too and don't want to cheap out on them. I'm thinking I'll just get the high end of what the clerk has.

Do pads differ and matter that much?

They do, but I always go now with the ceramics at advance auto parts or autozone. I found the semi-metalliac when I put them on there on my maxima didn't grip as well and I had to push harder to brake until they wore out many thousands of miles later. When I tried ceramics the next time the stopping power was just better, which must be easier on the brake system. I think they have less dust, too. I don't bother with OEM for brake stuff, I just get the cheaper rotors/pads from auto store.

i generally wouldn't advise ceramics unless the car came with them.

buy whatever the factory replacement pad is.

Just get the cheapest ones that fit. You're not going to improve the braking ability of that vehicle by different brands or materials of brake pad.

those break pads that have the squeak proof coating...yeah, don't bother with those

/out of 4 brake jobs I've done, these are the only ones that have made any noise.

Back in the 80's it didn't matter if you went OEM or autozone brand. Nowadays it seems to matter a lot more. On my 2000+ vehicles I've tried the middle of the road autozone pads compared to stock and stock was much better in feel and braking power. This is a GM car, Ford truck, and Nissan sports car.
