I need to buy new earphones. Something good for around $30. I know I can just newegg it but I figured I would get a feel for what you guys have to say.

Apple's EarPods.

I know what others will say about Apple's old ear buds, but their new EarPods are actually pretty good for $30.

What type of sound are you looking for? Bass, flat, mids etc?

Any durability issues, you put a lot of stress on the cable etc?

Apple's EarPods.

Maybe compared to SkullCandy, they are pretty gawd awful buds even for $30.

We advise against purchasing individually packaged Apple EarPods from your neighborhood Apple Store. They're a little better than before, but they're still among the worst hardware Apple has ever made.

Hell no. 10 bucks maybe, 30 bucks hell no.

I haven't tried the new ones, but the old ones suck at any price. You couldn't even pay may to use them. The new ones look as though they have a better design, but I still wouldn't use them.

Honestly, I've had pretty good luck just getting some cheap $5 pairs. I think the best pair I've ever had I got for a few bucks at a dollar store.

Two alternatives to the E10

Monoprice 8320 (mep-933) (monoprice.com)
-
Sound is very good but build is very weak; not the most comfortable but only $7
(you could replace the tips with:

-http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HKIAEW/ref=cm_cr_asin_lnk; and then the total would be around $25)
vsonic gr99 $28
(lendmeurears.com)
about same sound quality as the MEP; but better build and more comfortable.

I'd go with the GR99.

I just ordered the monoproce 8320s after reading rave reviews about them, I'll post a quick review of them once I have them in hand.

A slight thread detour but has anyone used the "platronics backbeat go" bluetooth headset?

I've been meaning to get some hands free buds for cycling and these seem ok.
