I play a lot of games and resonse times and black levels are some reasons why I would rather go CRT.

Any great proven ones? I had a Viewsonic A91f+ but it took a dump on Friday...

bought a VX924 and there's no way this thing is acceptable for me as far as gaming. Not to mention everything looks either blue or too yellow...

I've tried various tweaks, etc, but nothing gets me satisfied.

BTW, I'd like it to do at LEAST 1600x1200 @ 75 refresh. Budget is around <400 w/shipping.

No such thing new. All new CRTs are crap - broke - third world destined - invar shadow masks which sux. Grainy looking in addition to poor color and brightness.

If you really want a CRT got to accurateit and get a used AG or the 24" sony on ebay.

then there is no way you're getting a decent CRT...because simply, quality CRT's are discontinued. If you are wanting a warranty, however, try

www.azatek.com

they are used CRT's, but at least you get a 6 month warranty.

Awesome display

you can try e-bay too. it's a beautiful display, i've had mine for about 3yrs now. it's very heavy though, so make sure you have a good surface to place it on. I run 1600x1200 103hz

You could also try http://www.accurateit.com, which seems to have a larger selection than Azatek. Although I would stick with the ones labelled new; one person here a while ago got a dud refurb unit from them and he said their customer service sucked.

Chiropteran,

I?ve been using a Dell P1130 that I bought new about 2 years ago and just came across your thread. I never realized how scarce top quality CRT monitors have become. Luckily, I haven?t had any problems with my monitor, but reading this thread makes me want to hurry up and purchase one in the event my current one goes dead in a year or two.

Please update us on your experience purchasing from Azatek and the quality of your monitor. I?ve been looking at this one as a possible upgrade in the future ? if I can find it.

http://www.azatek.com/details.asp?iid=786 ? 24? Sony Trinitron HP OEM

I?ve used Sony Trinitron monitors for years and love ?em. I also found a link to a site called Overstock.com - http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi...LIST&PRO_SUB_CAT=410&PRO_SSUB_CAT=2364

I?ve never purchased a used monitor and would be a little nervous about the quality. I guess we will have to live with that if we plan on purchasing a CRT in the future.

Thanks

I'll do that for sure. I have been using an LCD for the last 5 years, but for certain things I really miss the qualities of a CRT.

Don't know what happened but I'm very happy.

Maybe it was unplugged cos of all my recent PC tweaking.

OP - many many people have had good experiances with the Sony FW900s from ebay, with only a few who are not completely happy.

I just ordered one, I have been looking for a nice CRT and I don't like ebay or buying used.

Arrived this morning. Looked like a new unopened box as expected, but I had to get ready and go to work so I haven't opened it yet. The box weighs a ton.

I'll set it up tonight and let you guys know how it is.

Have I mentioned I bought my Sony G500 new when it came out and I still love it! Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world....except for a 30" Dell/Apple LCD. :)

It was, out of the box, a bit underwhelming.

The screen was a little blurry, refresh rate wouldn't go higher than 85, and all in all it wasn't looking very good.

However, windows update found a driver for the monitor, installed that, also I found a setting called "superbright" which made the screen appear to be more clear and sharp. Those two things made a world of difference, or for it's purpose- running games- I find it to be worth every penny.

For regular windows use and internet browsing, I prefer my old LCD, but that is what dual monitor is for :)
