I have a few credits accumulated in my audible account. There are so many audiobooks...generally I prefer that the people reading the books be the actual authors, and also that they be interesting to listen to. So many audiobooks are read in this flat monotone manner which just sucks.

Recommend any?

Simon Vance. He is a reader, not an author, but he is definitely one of the best readers there is. He also happens to do a lot of science fiction.

Different readers will work with different kinds of books. There are a few standout readers like Jim Dale who is considered top tier. The late Tim Curry was also excellent. Then you also have very good readers like Simon Vance and Scott Brick who are quite popular in fiction as said in previous post.

Listen to the demos, a reader can enhance or break a book. For example Simon Vance's performance in V for Vendetta is simply superb; I preferred listing to his performance over the movie or graphic novel. That good.

Then there are also GraphicAudio books which are a whole other experience altogether.

I started listening to ebooks a year or so ago for my occasional commutes/long drives - going through my library, here are a few that stood out from just an entertainment standpoint -

Life of the party by Bert Kreischer was hilarious - better if you don't know anything about him going in. That one's mainly just a comedy book/auto biography but I found it really funny, and is read by Bert. It is anything but monotonous.

Another good one is 'You'...kind of torn on that one- not really a great book/story, but I will say the narration sucked me in and I ended up binge listening more than I usually would. It's pretty creepy.

'A little Life' is amazing but very long and really dark/disturbing content. I could see how it wouldn't be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it once I finished it (32 hrs..........)

'Angela's Ashes' - if you haven't read the book and are at all interested, the ebook is the way to hear it - read by the author. Depressing story for the most part however the narration was great.

'The witness' - Solid - can't say anything was really memorable but I did enjoy it quite a bit.

'The girl on the train' - if you haven't read the book and are looking for good narration this was one of my favorites - narrated by 3 separate British women, this was one of my favorite ebooks- not necessarily the best story but overall I really enjoyed listening to this one.

Just finished 'The Short Drop' (ehhh) and currently listening to cuckoo's calling (not great so far...)

The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman. It is available on Audible though!
