I travel for work all the time and after a recent adventure in wonderful Wetumpka, AL where I couldn't pick up crap for radio stations I decided I need to get an FM transmitter for my ipod. I know they all suck but I need a recommendation on the best one out there. Hopefully no more than $30-50. I would go with a tape adapter but most rental cars only have cd players and aux in is still (unfortunately) rare.

Digital tuning on more than a few stations is def a requirement as i'll be using it in diff areas all the time.

What I did for my town car was I bought an FM modulator without a trasmitter - it actually plugs directly into the antenna-in on the radio, and overrides your choice of a frequency.

It works great, setup wasn't too hard (though the random wire colors made things a PITA).

Good sound quality.

I'm sure the quality is better but I don't think the rental car companies want me ripping apart the dash. :) I need something that's plug and play.

the monster ipod fm transmitter and charger. that works fine for my brother and i. we got the model that has 8 preset stations, but the newer one now has a complete digital tuner that can dial in to mostly any stations...unfortunately, ive yet to hear of an fm transmitter than can dial in the frequencies of the 88.whatever ones, cause those frequencies never get used by anything.

iRiver AFT-100 is by far the best one out there for the money. I grabbed a few of these at office depot on clearance for $10. normal price is around $30ish, retail is around $50ish. check the reviews.

amazon has a pretty good price

I have the monster as well. Normally I wouldnt buy monster products just because they are overpriced, but the monster FM transmitter is the best one I have ever used.

My friend who bought a Monster FM transmitter after getting fed up with another brand says the same thing and he's definitely not a Monster sheeple. Sounds like there might actually be a quality difference here, unlike in 99% of other Monster products.

Think I'm going to order the Monster transmitter...thx guys!

Any feedback on power bricks for ipod vid would be appreciated. It's friggin impossible to watch a 2 hour movie even on a full battery much less get some audio time after watching the movie. I've had alot of coast to coast flights lately and I've had to...shudder...start reading books. :)

I use the Kensington FM transmitter and haven't had any problems (just went on a 1k trip with it, too). You can store 4 presets and it just plugs into the iPod docking port.

i've gone through 3 of them...the 3rd one either has a problem with the power jack for the cigarette lighter power or the cable is bad because it won't power on with that anymore. it works 10x better than with the batteries. maybe i just keep getting bad ones?
