Ok, so I just got a refurbished Canon S100 and it only came with a battery; so I need a few things and was hoping to get some input and questions answered from you guys and gals.

1. Battery charger: does brand matter? Or will a $5 wall charger from China charge batteries as well as a name brand?

2. Aftermarket batteries: What brands do you recommend? STK? Or stick with Canon brand batteries?

3. Memory Card:Will there be a noticeable performance difference between class 6 and class 10 for this camera? (when shooting video is when I presume you'd notice any such difference)
What size would you recommend? 16? 32? 64?

4. Case: I've never really had a decent camera before. What makes a decent case to go with it? Any recommendations?

5. Should I bother with a monopod or tripod? Do you who have them tend to use them or find them too much bother?

I recently bought a S110, and some accessories for it.

Why are you asking about the charger? Didn't your S100 come with it's own charger?

2. Aftermarket batteries: What brands do you recommend? STK? Or stick with Canon brand batteries?
I got these : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and they work great. Came with a charger, but I simply charge with the original charger from Canon.

Dunno about the difference, but I got a class 10, 16 GB and have had no need to pay it any further attention. Works well, no issues.

4. Case: I've never really had a decent camera before. What makes a decent case to go with it? Any recommendations?
Got this : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and I believe it's the best case for a compact case I've ever got, and I've had a few. More expensive than most, I'm sure, but it fits snugly, covers fully, and is stiff but not too hard, and has a loop at the back for your belt - might look dorky, but very handy to hold the camera while out on a hike or whatever.

5. Should I bother with a monopod or tripod? Do you who have them tend to use them or find them too much bother?
I have never used any such with a P&S. With my DSLR, sure, but not the compact. You might need it for a group picture with yourself in it, but I've always found a rock or a chair and jacket on top to suffice. The very idea of a compact camera is spontaneity and ease of carrying, and the tripod gets in the way of that.

there are after-market grips for the camera that helps in holding it steady...simply a piece of molded rubber but it adds greatly to the comfort of holding the tiny camera...
