Recommend a weird monitor mount?

I'm looking for a wall-mounted monitor mount for a 24" auxiliary display, that lets me swing the monitor up/down in front of another retractable display shown pushed back against the wall here.

The issue is I want to be able to have the mount support the aux display up above my triple-screen eyefinity setup, flush with the center eyefinity monitor and kind of sitting on top of it (another forum member has a link to his 4-display setup that is just what I'm trying to describe).

Here's the weird part: I want to be able to slide that 24" aux monitor down in front of the center eyefinity monitor, after pushing back the eyefinity monitor flush against the wall. Currently, the center monitor is wall-mounted and I can push it back almost flush against the wall, very easy.

The idea is that for normal computing, I push back the eyefinity display and bring down the 24" aux to use for internet and SC2 as my main display. Then, for FPS games, I pull the 24" aux up out of the way, and bring forward the center eyefinity display.

Here is a picture to show what I'm talking about. The eyefinity displays are 20.1" 1600x1200, and the aux display is 24" 1920x1200. Without a wall mount for the center display, it currently sits on its own stand, so I slide the 24" aux to the side behind the right monitor and pull out the center eyefinity display when I want to do eyefinity. The picture shows the center eyefinity display pushed back against the wall with the 24" aux sitting in the middle in front of the eyefinty display:

So this setup(in the picture) is for Normal computing right?

Yes, normal computing would be as in the picture using the 24" display for everyday use, although I'd prefer the 24" to be a little higher.

The HP articulating arm mount I found mounts to the desk so it wouldn't work because the eyefinity display pushed back would hit the desk-mounted arm. Other wall mounts just sit at the same height and don't seem to let the monitor swing up and down the way I want to do easily. By easy I mean that I'd like the monitor arm to be less hassle than moving the 24" off to the side sliding across my desk.

I would be interested in such a setup as well considering I have a triplewide e-IPS 1080p array for gaming and multitasking but just got a 27" 2560x1440 s-IPS for photo editing.

Alternatively you could get wireless kb/mouse and set up your fourth monitor on a table right next to your main table and work that way. That's what I'll probably end up doing if I can't find a cheap, sturdy retractable mount.

I should probably also verify that my 7970 can handle 4 monitors... pretty sure it can but I will need another DP->DVI adapter.

What is your current setup blastingcap?

If you don't get a weird monitor support, are you going to do the multi-desk option? I could do that as well, as I'm using an L-shape wrap-around desk so I could just wrap the 4th monitor around to the side... hmmm will play with that over the weekend and update this thread with a new picture. Might make sense when I want to dock my work laptop and take over 2 of the 4 monitors and dual-computer with my desktop using the other 2.

I currently have two six foot long tables, the left one for my computer monitors and such, and the right one for various kitchenware and food preparation equipment (don't ask). Then in-between the tables, underneath, is my PC. I could put the 27" panel on the right side + wireless kb/mouse (wired is okay too but I don't think the wires can reach that far). I would need to unplug kb/mouse if I go the wireless route but the 27" panel is just for photo editing anyway. What bugs me more is that I would have to have a separate color calibration profile for the 27" panel as well since it does not have enough controls to do hardware calibration directly.

Another way to accomplish this might be to have some kind of vertical sliding track for a monitor mount, so you connect the vertically sliding track to the wall, then connect a regular old wall mount to the vertically sliding track? I have no idea if such a thing exists.

However, I wonder if a very crazy solution would be to install some kind of hanger on the display that is easy to "hang" onto an existing wall mount or another monitor? So you'd install a wall mount up above and use the hanger on the auxiliary monitor to just hang it up there, above. Then, when you want, you can lift it off the upper wall mount, and then hang it over the center monitor? So the lower wall mount would support two monitors at the same time, the original, and the auxiliary monitor hanging over it?

You mean horizontal sliding track? So it zooms toward and away from you, with a screen dangling from it? That sounds feasible, but also like a lot of work, plus you'd need multiple levels of hang... or some sort of retractable arm.

The other idea might work, sounds more feasible actually.
