Recommend a USB 802.11 wireless adapter that doesn't suck?

I've got an Airlink 101 USB wireless adapter and it is horrible. When it was sitting right next to the router the signal was only 4 bars out of 5. Now it's further away from it and the signal's 2 bars, sometimes doesn't connect, and can't stream video. My laptop on the other hand gets 4 bars.

Any recommendations?

I'm not sure if you want the standard compact USB models or the major USB models.

In any case this is my recommendation; always and forever

Basically these are high powered USB receivers. I think it might be overkill in your case however, as these are made to be basically long distance receivers. (And I mean long distance)

this is the USB WiFi dongle that I use and recommend. It seems to have pretty good signal, and is cheap and highly compatible to boot. RealTek 8187L chipset.

Edit: Got to m e r i t l i n e . c o m , search for 802.11g, and click on the generic-looking one that is $10.99 or $12.99, depending on whether it's one sale or not. It's a "high power" Realtek chipset.

just don't get the ASUS WL-167G unless you plan on removing the cover and fitting the chipset with a heatsink.

I got a Rosewill RNX-G1 a month or so ago for my desktop since my DSL modem is in the other room. It's worked perfectly ever since, streaming Netflix online vids and with my desktop acting as a server and doing remote desktop.

For $20, you can't go wrong...

If you still have problems, try a different radio channel.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but are these adapters 64bit compatible? I am using a netgear WG111 with a dsl modem in the next room and it works fine. However, I am wondering if it will still work
if I upgrade to a new comp that is 64bit. The OP also did not indicate if he is using 64 or 32 bit. I have heard that there are a lot of problems with USB wireless adapters and 64 bit systems. Is this still true or do most of the adapters have 64 bit drivers now?

Mine, Larry's and Bobsmith1492's are compatible with Windows Vista 64. The T-Links should be compatible, but there are a lot of them and I didn't check them all.

Mine was plug and play. (tp-link). Win 7 PRo x64 detected it with no issues.

Yeah I use mine on Vista 64-bit business.
