To give you an idea of my taste, here's my current "modern" (non-classical) playlist:

Mr Scruff-Get a Move On
Wilco-Jesus, etc
Dream Theater-Metropolis Pt 1
Charles Mingus-Moanin'
Main Street East-Thinkin About
Moulin Rouge (I don't know the artist specifically)-Meet Me In The Red Room
Smashing Pumpkins-Disarm
Weezer-Slob
Wilco-War on War
Primus-DMV

In terms of CD's, I have a lot of Ben Folds (duh, see sig), Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, New Radicals, Guster, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Five for Fighting, etc lying around.

What do you recommend (based on this list?) Please don't give me stuff like Puddle of Mud or Limp Bizkit or Korn or Eminem, it's just not my bag. Thanks. :)

Mingus - Live at Antibes is probably his best work. If you like Mingus, this is certainly a spectacular disc to have. Of course, if you are talking jazz, you dont wanna miss out on Miles Davis' Bitches Brew.

A great Smashing Pumpkins song is a B side from one of their singles, Never Let Me Down Again. Its a Depeche Mode cover song, and I think its their best track, better than Disarm or 1979.

Of course, as my username implies, Im a Jimi Hendrix nut, so you cant go wrong with him. I suggest his later work the material he was working on when he died. They culled much of his work from that time into a CD, First Rays of the New Rising Sun.

Given the last paragraph of my post, you're either forgetful or a smartass. :)

Ok don't download Puddle of Mudd but check out the rest.
Personally I think puddle of Mudd sounds like Creed (I don't like Creed) but I like this song.

Try it, it won't kill you.

I couldn't find that song, but I downloaded another one of theirs called "Soldier Girl." It rocks! I'm gonna check out some more of their stuff-Thanks! :)

Well, given all those bands are groups that are all over TV and media right now, I guess you could say I've already 'tried them out'. I mean, whether I like it or not, I hear a lot of their stuff all the time. Sorry man, I just don't dig it.

Yeah, I guess they haven't recorded Suitcase Calling yet. Just about anything you get, besides an unreleased Soldier Girl, is live or a demo. They are the brainchild of Tim DeLaughter, former Tripping Daisy front man. I've seen many, many bands live, and nothing quite compares to them. Their recorded stuff doesn't do them justice.

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots pt. 1
Butthole Surfers - Pepper (Maybe not, but I'm on a kick for it right now :) )
Faith No More - The Gentle Art of Making Enemies
Ben Harper - Burn One Down (anything by this guy, actually)
The Strokes - Hard to Explain
The Hives - Hate to Say I Told You So
