Any recommendations for a small linux distro to use as a squid proxy/cache for home use?

I'd classify myself as the "intermediate" linux user but haven't touched it in a few years. It will be installed on a P4 class system with 1GB RAM and probably 40GB HD.

Thanks

You can really use whatever distro you want as long as you do a slim, custom install. I personally choose Debian.

For older comps I've had a great experience with WattOS

Currently running slick on an old P3 1 GHz with 512 MB of RAM and a 32 MB graphics card. Based on Ubuntu and compatible with their repositories IIRC, but ultra-slimmed down.

SliTaz has become my default prebuilt, "light" distro. It's VERY light, but still has some nice features, and doesn't feel primitive. I have it on a 256mb flash drive, in addition to some Windows portable apps, and it all fits very nicely.
