I'm looking for some decent 2.1 speakers to go along with an Audigy 2 I might be buying soon. Price wise I dont think I want anything more expensive than $100.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the quick replies :)

Those Klipsch speakers look pretty good, but reading the reviews a lot of people mention the hiss coming from the speakers. Are they really better than the Logitech Z-2200's?

The Klipschs look retarded! :) I have heard both and the logitechs sound better and have more power to boot.

I have the Altec Lansing ATP-3 for over 3 years now it is great. However, the Altec Lansing 221 bass is better for games & is more powerful, but slightly lower in mid tone that most people wouldn't notice (got it for my gf sis at x-mas). The Klipsch Promedia is very nice with sound quality slightly better than the latter 2, but does it warrant the higher price (listened to it & compared speakers when I was shopping last Nov/Dec)?

Get the Klipcsh If the speakers are going to be your main entertainment system. But, it is better to get the AL 221 for games & invest in a good pair of head phones if you have a good home audio set up.

I have the ATP-3's too and I love them. I got them for $35 + shipping at FS/FT!

That's a very subjective comment. It really depends on the kind of music you like to listen to. The Klipsch's have a solid, clear, and distinguised mid-range. I think this makes them better for a wider variety of music. Most all music uses the mid-range frequencies. Granted, I haven't had a chance to hear the 2200s, but I somehow doubt that they compete with the Klipsch's when it comes to the mid-range. I have not heard another set of computer speakers that compares to the Klipsch's.

I always suggest that people buy their speakers at a physical store instead of a virtual one. This way they can try out the speakers for themselves and see which ones have the kind of sound that they prefer.

If you can afford one of the more expensive pair I say go for it, but if you absolutely
must stay under $100 I got a set of these for $81 for a friend w/ free shipping to boot
and they are really nice. Logitech Z3

I would buy anything with Yamaha on the speaker. I have a set of YST-M10's that still crank after about 7 years.

Well, I really have no recommendations, but I'd avoid the Logitech Z340s, if you were considering them (I think the cheapest they offer, at around $40, I got mine for $35.99 a while back). They sound terrible compared to my ancient Altec Lansings (I would be using those, but a power surge apparently blew out the volume control, and it seems pretty messy to fix).

I don't really like the idea of 'high-end' 2.1 systems. I say blow your cash on a nice set of PC headphones (I don't know which ones are good, but these Sennheisers that I picked up sure sound nice), and save up for a 7.1 setup. :)

I've never been a fan of Logitech speakers. The bass is too boomy, not accurate enough. Good for games, not that great for music/movies.

The Klipsh GMX are ok, but the Klipsh Promedia 2.1's are much better.

The best speakers under $100 are the EV SonicXS 2.1 speakers, if you can find them at compUSA/eBay. If you can't, Altec Lansing ATP3 are very nice, as some people have noted above.

That is exactly the reason I'm looking for 2.1s, no room to put all these satellites around. After reading the replies I think I'll get the cheaper ATP-3's and invest in a good pair of headphones later on. Sound is important, but not $130+ important ;)

Thanks for your help.

I have the Yamaha YST-MS50. I bought them for my girlfriend and I was so impressed that I bought a set for myself. :) Before I upgraded my old Cambridge Soundworks speakers, I used to use my Sony MDR-V6 headphones instead. Now, I haven't noticed any differences between the Yamahas and the Sony V6.

I wanted the Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 210D, but $250 is too hard to really justisfy for now.

Planar Media 14s. Trust me, you won't be disappointed, especially if these are for music.
