Recommend a SACD Player

$500 budget, has to come in black, play CD, DVD and I guess do 3D.
Quality/performance over price.

Do you already have a surround receiver that accepts DSD input? Nearly all do the past 5 years. If you already do and like it's sound, then you don't need to spend much on a SACD player. Nearly all of Sony's blu-ray players will do DSD digital output to your receiver and they cost less than $100. You are essentially using it as a digital transport.

I have a 2 year old Sony Blu-Ray S390. It's fantastic with DVD and Blu-Ray. It will output 24p for DVD and BluRay... is 1-to-1 pixel accurate with no cropping. It was only $80 at the time. It also does DSD bitstream to my 10 year old Yamaha receiver. It sounds fantastic.

I have the Denon 3313ci which has "HDMI SACD/DSD Support". But I have no idea exactly what that means or how to take advantage of it.
I thought a SACD disc has two layers. PCM and DSD. PCM being the CD quality layer and DSD being the SACD layer.
Are you saying that I could use a lower quality SACD player and get the processing done in the receiver?
<--- noob

Ah, raze l's right - your receiver is perfectly capable of handling the decoding tasks. You could simply buy a player that can handle SACD and let the Denon do the work.

If I plug the HDMI from the player into the HDMI port for "Blu Ray", does the Denon automatically recognize when I play a 5.1 SACD file?

Yes. Connect the Sony BluRay to your receiver via HDMI. Choose DSD as output and your receiver should display DSD as an input. Your receiver will then be a DAC and do the job of converting the digital zeros and ones to analog sound.

All the Sony BluRay player will be doing is reading the zeros and ones and passing it to your receiver. So you don't need anything too expensive. Luckily the Sony BluRay players are VERY good and affordable. I love their DVD 24p support.
