What do you use to make edits to captures? I have a couple TV shows I captured with my tv tuner from which I would like to edit out the commercials and just experiment in general. I have tried the Windows movie maker for fun, it is simple enough to use but I don't like how it seems to dumb down the encoding side of things. Maybe the options are buried in there, I'll lookl a little more later. I have only finished one clip with it and it came out a little too grainy for my liking.

I am recording a few shows off my ReplayTV (which is old enough so it automatically skips commercials), transferring them to my computer, and editing out the commercials with a program called MPEG Video Wizard. You get a 30-day trial.

I'm just using the standard Winfast PVR software that came with the card, I have the capture profile set to DVD NSTC. Any suggestions you have on this subject would be great!

i use virtualdub and a lossless codec like huffyuv. this gives me the finest control over where to cut for commercials before i reencode into something smaller. admittedly it takes time and space, but i get good results.
