Check out FS/FT or eBay and maybe you can find a used pair.

I own both, if I were him I'd save the $40 (once you get Grados + good pads you're easily looking at $75).

Nothing else even comes close - especially for portables.

I've had those koss headphones for a while. Excellent range of sound for the size of the headphones.
