Try blowing some air through through the slots to see if dust is the culprit? In my opinion cooling pads are a huge marketing gimmick and waste of money- I saw a test on a website once and it lowered the temperature of an old HP laptop 1 degree at most.

You also say the fans sound awful, so if dust isn't causing it then perhaps your fan is defective. If your laptop is still under warranty Dell will fix it.

good info. i am very wary of these coolers as most look like garbage, and i really don't want to pay 50 bucks for one. If it wasn't under warranty id just rip it apart and replace the fan. i have too much work to do to send it off to Dell.

cleaned it with a duster, some dust out of that right side, but no difference in fan noise. it almost rings. i'm going to contact dell.

replacing the gpu fan per dell warranty. that was easy. hopefully that along with a fan speed tool will be enough not to have to buy the cooler.

I'd imagine your fan was simply defective, thus the loud noise. The fan on my E1505 is barely audible in low power, and only when I do intensive work does it whirl up a bit, however still pretty minute in noise.

Good to hear about the warranty. From my lone experience Dell's replacement service is top notch :thumbsup:

I jsut finally got my Notepal infinite and it's night and day difference. CPU 100% now only 36C max, was 57C. HD was 50C idle, 58C load, now 40C idle, 44C load. Works great for my DV9500t
