I am looking for a non-expensive, good quality inkjet printer that has cartridges that have the heads built-in, and with the color inks in one cartridge, instead of separate cartridges for each color.

I have talked to my local friendly (environmentally, and in a neighborhood kind of way, like Spider-man) cartridge refiller and remanufacturer and they have advised me to buy an inkjet printer which has the print heads located within the cartridge. They have stated that this is because if the heads get damaged, it can be replaced cheaply, unlike those printers which have separate heads. They stated that those with separate print heads from cartridges can not be replaced cheaply and easily (the heads are as expensive or more than than the price of a new printer).

He also told me to choose a printer with the the color inks in one cartridge, not those with a cartridge for each color (this is also to make it cheaper to replace one in case it gets damaged; also these kind of printers are cheaper than their 'one cartridge per ink' counterparts). (I also would like to ask opinions in this, if this is indeed a better purchase choice.)

The printer companies charge a ridiculously high amount of money to repair your printers once out of warranty, making it better to just buy new cartridge (with print heads) in case it gets damaged.

Note: I do not want to buy "genuine" ink cartridges from the printer manufacturing companies, as this is not environment-friendly, more like landfill-friendly. Also, "genuine" printer ink cartridges are widely known to be very expensive. It said that printer ink is even more expensive than human blood. What the f .

I am also considering a color laser printer but they are kinda expensive, considering that I will only be printing occasionally. Anyway, if you know of a good, cheap model/brand, please post it too.

I've bought an HP Photosmart printer... Is a multifunctional device. I've pleased with my acquisition.. Maybe an HP is good for you too.

If you get a colour laser, you won't typically have the issue of expired/dried ink. With infrequent printing, the (included) starter colour toners will also last awhile, and the black toners give better value than black ink. Of course the upfront cost is a bit more; my Samsung CLP-310N was over $200 in 2008 (Highly recommend these Samsungs btw and the newer ones are 150ish). I've only replaced the black toner, and only once.

However, for photo printing, you really do need an inkjet. For everything else get laser.

just do an hp officejet and get refills at officemax 'till the cartrdrige becomes inefficient and buy a new cart and redo. color sucks for them personally, rip off-wise. but black is good.

No NO no and no, there are two types of inkjet printers, those that have the print head on the cartridge and those that have the printhead external to the cartridge.

Anytime you buy a printhead on the cartridge inkjet you are saying to the vendor, please rip me off and they will.

Sadly with the new chipped external to the cartridge set of all inkjets the buyer is saying to the vendor, please rip me off and they will. But at least with the printhead external to the cartridge type printer, the buyer has some hope of refilling and beating the chip, whereas the fool who buys a printhead on the cartridge type is DOOMED to always being ripped off.

Don't buy an inkjet. If you print much at all, you'll quickly realize savings with a laser. Once I got a laser printer, I swore I'd never touch an inkjet again. The only thing they don't do well is photo prints, but then again printing photos at your local lab is better and cheaper than an inkjet anyways.
