Update:

I received this Seiko automatic watch today. Hopefully my dad will like it. $44.75 shipped. I tried it on, and it does catch the hair a bit more than my Citizen Elegance series, but hopefully with adjusting the links, it won't for my dad.

thanks jumpr for the suggestion.

yup. I should have searched first because after I posted I remembered your thread.

How is the watch been to you after a month's use?
It's great...I've worn it everywhere, to work, shopping etc. and haven't had a single problem.

I take it off when I wash my hands or otherwise do something that might scratch it (wash dishes, put something together, etc.) but there's not a scratch on it. The crystal itself is quite durable and it's still literally crystal-clear. I think I might eventally get a new band for it as the one it shipped with is a bit cheap, but other than that, the watch itself is outstanding. The movement is great, and I think it's my best purchase in quite a while.

how is the band on it? both my dad and I have rather hairy arms and some watch bands tend to pull at the hair...any of that going on or is it super smooth?

I've got super super hairy arms (thanks dad) and I've had almost no problems with it pulling. Not even the clasp on the underside pulls at the hair. I truthfully expected to have a lot of problems with it, but of the whole month I've had it, it's happened MAYBE once or twice that the band has pulled my hair.

The only reason I want to replace the band is because it doesn't feel as substantial as the watch itself.

That's why millions of people shop for a watch rather than just buy a generic $8 watch from walmart.

Ok guys - you are both right. Jesus.

If you only want a watch to tell time, an $8 Walmart special will tell time for a year or so. It won't last forever, and it was not designed to.

For those who appreciate an elegant time piece, a watch is more of an investment (like a Patek Philipe, Tag Heuer, Rolex, etc.)

I think the Citizen Eco0Drive watches are a marvelous value at right under $100.

Sorry. :)

Seriously, people have different opinions on whether knock offs are a great deal, or insulting to watches.

However, most of the knockoffs I've seen from HK for $40 - $60 are actually better quality that Fossils/Seikos/etc. I've seen for $100+, plus are a lot sharper looking (whether they say 'Rolex' on them or not).
