I am using a 4770K overclocked to 4.1 Ghz for general and optimization work in where optimization can take from 3 min to 1.3 hours of elapsed time (100% cpu utilization). CPU temperatures are between 60 and 70 degrees Celsius.

Should I:

1) Consider from Microcenter a I7-5820K six core CPU with using DDR3 so I can overclock to 4.3, or
2) Wait for SKYLAKE and buy at Black Friday from Microcenter.
3) or Other better setup.

Any other considerations(s) CPU Cooler, Gigabyte mobo, RAM?

Thanks for your opinion.

You've got a 4770K.. Wait for Skylake..

No doubt!! I say just wait for Skylake also besides whats wrong with what you've got now jeez.I mean if you have to have more horse power right this second, then go ahead by all means grab your self a 5820K but personally I would wait to see what Skylake has to bring to the table.:whiste:

Is your optimization work well threaded, and how many hours would you say you do a week?
If you spend a few hours a week waiting on your processor and you could use 16 threads, you might want to look at the 5960X. The price difference really isn't that much if it ends up saving a couple hours a week.

Does optimization work utilize >4 cores? If yes, then 5820K. If not, wait for Skylake...or later.

Say what? 5820K (X99) is DDR4, not DDR3. Also, what do you mean "So I can overclock to 4.3?"

You know you can do that on your 4770K right? You probably just need a better cooler.

If you think you NEED 6 Cores or more, waiting for Skylake is a bad idea since your only option is Haswell-E. Even Broadwell-E isn't yet on the near horizon, so you may as well purchase it now.
Keep in mind that since you will need Processor, Motherboard and new DDR4 RAM, the price will skyrocket. And that assuming you only need 6 Cores, because if you want 8 or more, prepare to implode your wallet.

Overclocking a work PC? That's not very wise. As far as an i7-5820k overclocking to 4.3, that's not guaranteed, and you should not being thinking about overclocking anyways on a PC you do your work on.

Still an i7-5820k should be much better at programs that use more than 4 cores than a 4770k with both at stock settings.

What is the nature of the aforementioned "optimization"? Is this custom software you have written yourself, or are you using someone else's software package? How many cores can it use at once?

Operations Research problems? Mini-Max optimization for say, a network of truck routes between a ga-zillion 7/11 stores, to deliver the right amount of corn-nuts with a minimum of diesel-fuel expenses?

I'm not so sure that sort of thing needs hex-core processing power.

Now . . . NUK-A-LUR Exploshion simulations -- that's something else.

Get a better cooler, overclock your existing parts more, and wait for skylake-e. You're going to need quite a cooler to run a 5820K at 4.3 Ghz not to mention DDR4 ram...

I think it's prudent, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, that EVERYONE is using their computer for NUK-A-LUR explosion simulations. :)
