Recommend a new Dishwasher

Think I still have an account with them...will try to ping it tonight but internet connect is kinda flakey tonight.

Last I checked they (Consumer Reports) tend to only review medium-high and up priced appliances.

Okay here is some info....
Maytag has the 3rd lowest repair history rate, only beaten by Kenmore (Sears) at 2nd and Whirlpool at 1st.

Surprisingly that particular model is one they reviewed (number 17 out of 37). Since your going Sears...there is a Kenmore model roughly the same price that is higher up on the list (4 out of 37) model 1637[2]. Kenmore, as a rule of thumb, goes through a WIDE selection of model numbers and can vary for different sections of the country. Seldom find model numbers given on Consumer Reports for Kenmore items that exist where I am (I live in Florida while Consumer Reports uses models available where they are located...California I presume). Matching up photos and spec's on the Sears web site I found the following two model numbers that are very close match 16032 (last year's model) and 17032 (this year's model).

Be careful on some of those cheaper ones. THe $188 Kenmore ones are nothing more than rebadged Fridgidaire ones. I know because my POS Fridgidaire that came with my house only 5 years ago is broke and when I went to Sears to look at some, it was the EXACT same thing.

I have this one. It's a lot like the one you posted but with the third rack.. It's a GREAT dishwasher and very quiet when properly installed. Leaps and bounds ahead of the cheap models... as far as noise level...

The third rack, small item holders and adjustable racks on my model and pretty damn cool and we do use them with regularity.

I definately reccomend the 3rd rack model.

Just my opinion.

Bosch does great job cleaning but has a bunch of drawbacks.

It has no garbage disposal. There is a basket in the bottom you have to empty with all the food gunk left in it.

Bosch also has no vents. It tries to vent the water vapor down the drain hole and so does a poor job drying.

Maytag is the best bang for the buck, but their cheaper units have plastic interiors which can get "that smell".

I just bought a Kitchen-aid.

This thing is cavernous. I told the old lady we need to buy more dishes 🙂

It does a great job cleaning and is very quiet.

EDIT: wife also liked the smooth front on the Kitchen-Aids. Easy to clean.

You also might want to try working on your hamstrings before getting a new dishwasher.

The reason they're bigger is because they've compressed the motor and pump compartment and the door and lower basket are much lower then the others I've owned.

BTW-Installing this thing with the new compressed/limited access is whole lotta fun too. Get used to turning a wrench around so you can turn the compression nut 1/16 of a turn at at a time.

We went with about a $500 Whirlpool model when we replaced the one in our house. Whirlpool also makes Kitchenaid and some Kenmore models. Our criteria also included noise level as are kitchen is in the same part of the house as the family room.

Absolutely true... It was nice to install it on the other side of the lip of ceramic tile in the kitchen with the nice razor sharp edge... what's a little blood... I ask you?

Had 3 Bosch dishwashers.....they all caught on fire. Not impressed with them at all. After the 3rd fire I signed up for Consumer Reports, read everything I could, then bought a high end Kenmore.

Have a little time before my next meeting here is some repair history data from Consumer Reports:

(higher % is worse)
6% Whirlpool
7% Kenmore (Sears)
8% Maytag
9% Amana
9.2% GE
9.5% GE Monogram
11% Hotpoint
11.5% Jenn-Air
12% Frigidaire
12.2% Kitchen Aid
14.8% Bosch
20% Asko

Since some people are suggesting Bosch will give some info on them....
The first place and second place dishwashers are both Bosch
1st: Bosch Model SHU66C0[2] $850
2nd: Bosch Model SHU43C0[2] $580

First one seems a little too pricy for me for a dishwasher. Still hesitant on the second considering them having the 2nd highest repair percentage.

I concur with this. There was a cheap Kenmore listed on Consumer Reports but it was way down on the list. The Kenmore I suggested that was number 4 out of the 37 they reviewed is $450-500 model (depending if you get last or this year's model).

Bosch to me is one of those brands that once built some high end stuff that was worth the extra price you paid for it. Heck the whole reason I bought a Bosch dishwasher originally is because my parents have had one for about 10 years and never had a problem with it. The newer ones don't seem to be as well made. After taking mine back the 3rd time I dealt with a different salesman. He told me that they saw more returns on Bosch than they did any other brand. This was a builders supply place and they carried everything except for Kenmore of course. He said the best brand they carried was probably Amana, at least from what he had heard from people that had them. I got my money back from them and ended up going to Sears and getting the Kenmore. Can't remember the model # right now but it was around $500. In my opinion you just can't go wrong with Kenmore most of the time.

Originally, I had replied with "Bosch" a bit earlier. Since my 12 y.o. GE is starting to make a little noise, I suspect it's going to die soon. I spotted a Kenmore with a nice stainless steel interior on sale for $599. The price is about $130 off the regular price. The salesperson that I talked to indicated it was reduced that much because a newer model will be coming out to replace it. For $599, it looked real sweet and had lots of nice features (height adjustable upper rack, etc.)
