I'm considering upgrading my current 3800+ X2, 1GB RAM system to the new Intel Conroe chips, and after looking over everything, I'm amazed at how high prices have gotten within the past year. High-end motherboards look to be at a $100 premium than what I've been used to, and we all know of the recent RAM hike.
So I've decided that if I do upgrade, I'm starting with the E6600 Core 2 Duo. I'm just not sure yet if I want to overclock that much, so I'm asking for your help. I'd like suggestions on two different systems, one that will allow me to overclock, and one that I can just plug in everything and run at stock speeds with ultimate stability. I'm looking at $1000 budget on this one for CPU, mobo, RAM (2x1GB is preferred), and a PSU to run it all, although I'd consider trying to throw in 4GB of RAM if the stable system option is cheap enough (not likely, I know). I don't mind to eat up the whole grand with these three components, although I'm looking at selling my laptop to nab one of the G80 cards when they come out, so any extra money left over is good.
Thanks for any suggestions.
EDIT: Wanted to add that even though I may or may not purchase one of the G80 chips when they are released, I still have a PCIe 7800gt, and will most likely NEVER hook up SLI, so that is a non-factor for me.
