Hey all I was thinking about getting an Xbox 360 this summer and I wanted you guys to recommend me a monitor for it. So far I was thinking about a 20" and I want it to be widescreen and less than $500.

I have looked at the ViewSonic VX2025WM and the Dell 2007wfp. Although on the Dell I have heard about terrible banding issues when using it. Do u guys know if dell has fixed that?

Also I have heard that the Xbox 360 does not upscale DvD's from 480p to 720p. Would 720p even matter on a 20" monitor. I mean wouldn't the display be so small that you wouldnt notice a huge difference between standard dvd's and upscaled dvds?

It's not a matter of size per se, it's a matter of viewing angles. If you sit with your nose to a 20" monitor, it'll occupy your entire field of view and then some. You'll be able to pick out individual pixels

If you sit a few feet away from a 60" TV, same thing. The TV is 3 times bigger, but if you sit 3 times further away it's effectively the same.

So, for "monitor" use I'd say it's pretty important that you get the best DVD output possible. The problem with 20" and 21" widescreens is that there are only 945 vertical lines available for most (16x9) DVD's. So irregardless of whether your DVD player upscales or not, the monitor has to rescale the picture.

If you have money to burn, get a good DVD player that can output 480I via HDMI or DVI, and feed that into a scaler, such as the iScan DVDO. Dedicated scalers are flexible enough to upscale to ANY resolution and do so in one step with least quality loss possible. Or just step up to a 24" LCD, which has a nice 1080 lines available for 16x9 content, and buy a DVD player that has 1080P scaling (most don't - at most you get 1080I)
