Recommend a GPS for my buddy's 03, 350Z..plz

We just got back from Fry's. He was less than happy w/the service there 🙂 He's fair skinned and was red as a beet
when we left.

He is looking for a good unit, under $1k, decent sized display, with excellent software, and portable (not a dash unit).
I told him about the unit with the display that mounts on the rear view mirror but can't remember the brand.

I told him I'd ask & I will give him your suggestions...TIA

i have a friend that is selling a new in box garmin streetpiot III for $550 (i think), looks like a pretty good unit

He scared the hell out of me, doing the roads around Mt.Palomar this AM 😛
The weather was overcast & nice/cool.
