After having buying and using a couple Dysons and other bagless vacs I've come to the conclusion that bags are just better AND more convenient. Yes, its inevitable they will lose some suction as the bag fills BUT you'll never get messy cleaning that damned canister.

Yeah, definitely won't be buying anymore bagless vacs.

I've never had an issue just disconnecting the canister and dumping what's in it into the trash; I never get messy from this...

For me it wasn't the canister on my old bagless hoover that was the issue. It was the filter that would get clogged up that required you to bang it against the side of the garbage can to knock it clean that resulted in a cloud of dust around you.

I wash the canister of my dyson a couple times and year and it bugs me that the water coming out is black from all the dirt that isn't separated out. I guess it all sticks in the little passages due to static...

Also, just during regular emptying of the canister I end up banging it against my hand to shake out more dirt. I never feel like I get it completely clean. (vi edit beat me to it!)

I realize I'm probably being a bit OCD about it and don't deny it seems to work great. I just think for the money there's probably a better choice. If Festool made a beater brush attachment for their shop vacs it would be a no-brainer choice. It is by far the best vacuum I have ever used.

I bought a refurb Dyson DC17 at Fry's about 3 years ago. It is amazing how much crap it sucks out of the carpet, and it has been reliable so far.

A vacuum really depends on income level. It makes no sense to waste money on such an appliance when you have more pressing needs.

I went with an Electrolux ultra quiet. We just have natural tile in the home and area rugs so a full power bar is not needed.

If I needed that, I'd go Miele probably...our priorities are good cleaning and quiet.

I see this written a lot so what the hell do you guys have in your carpets that it's sucking so much out?

I'm thinking it's because the Dyson's are bagless so it looks like they vacuumed up a city street as with a bagged vacuum you don't see what they pick up.

Kids + pets + outdoors = destroyed carpets. The dog is the worst though. You could vaccuum and 20 minutes later it looks like a small animal exploded. Plus if it's wet outside she brings mud and clay in on her feet after going out for potty breaks.

The filter can definately get clogged. Happens to me a lot but our Dyson has a little release button that allows you to separate the outer cansiter cover from the filter to allow easy cleaning

Ha! I laughed because some times after we groom her we have enough loose hair to make a small animal
