I just started The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and I can't put the books down. On Monday, books 3, 4, and 5 should be arriving.

Hyperion, and the fall of hyperion.

Great books, but long, complicated, and actually somewhat literary.

Any William Gibson book
I would start with Neuromancer

"The Mote in God's" eye is also another good one.

Pandora's Star, by Peter F. Hamilton. Actually, pretty much anything by that author.

If you like SciFi Fantasy type, pick up The Cleric Quintet (or anything by R A Salvatore). Don't know all the names of the books offhand but it's one of the best series out there.

Here's a list from his website:

I. Canticle
II. In Sylvan Shadows
III. Night Masks
IV. The Fallen Fortress
V. The Chaos Curse

I used to be a huge fan of R.A. Salvatore, but after reading other authors, his books just aren't that spectacular anymore. For example, the series by Weis and Hickman (Dragonlance), Stephen King (Dark Tower), George RR Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire), and Robin Hobb (Farseer/The Tawny Man) are all much better IMHO.

Another vote for "The Mote in God's Eye". One of the classics.

Also, Ringworld.

Weis and Hickman are also great. Death Gate Cycle rocks as do lots of the DragonLance ones. But I still have loved every one of Salvatore's books I've ever read. He just has a way of drawing you in and making this very immerseful. Especially becaue they are full of adventure and lots of action.

Just finished "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. Great book. I've never been much of a Sci Fi fan at all and while this book is in the "Sci Fi" section, I wouldn't consider it heavily in that genre. Anyway, it's a great book. Just picked up the second of the series, "Ender's Shadow" but haven't gotten a chance to get started on it.
