Prelude to Foundation, Issac Asimov
Then read the rest of the foundation series. Arguably the best series I've ever read.
Since the order is pretty vague on the inside of the books, here's the chronological/story arc order:
1. Prelude to Foundation
2. Forward the Foundation
3. Foundation
4. Foundation and Empire
5. Second Foundation
6. Foundation's Edge
7. Foundation and Earth
They're all equally great, but the prelude is the most traditionally "action packed" of the novels. That said all of them should be extremely enjoyable given what you're used to.
I'm actually reading the foundation trilogy right now -- I'm halfway through second foundation. Quite a good read, although I don't think the original trilogy has 19hrs of read in it, pretty short books. I haven't read the others though.

Asimov is pretty good, I read the foundation trilofy and am reading the robot books now. But I just don't like his books as much as Heinlein.
