Hello all,

I just recently sold my xbox 360 and flat screen TV in order to pay the rent which just leaves me with my PC which is by no means a hardcore gaming rig.

It's been a long time since I've been into PC Gaming, but was wondering if anyone could recommend some games that I can run. My favourite games of all time are Half-Life, Deus Ex, Mass Effect, and Fallout series.

Here are the specs on my PC:

Windows 7
Pentium 2.6ghz
4096 MB RAM
DirectX 11
Intel HD Graphics Family

I'd be happy for any old school recommendations, anything really. Thanks!

You mentioned that you like ME. Do you like RPGs in general?

Could always download an emulator and the entire genesis/snes library, play some of that. Its very simple to use an emulator.

Play zero wing!

Based on what you like though maybe give the original farcry a shot, its a very good game, free too. Also people who like deus ex (not me) tend to like system shock 2 as well so maybe try that.

I am a parrot for this game, but if you like strategy, then OpenTTD is about as good as it gets in the non-demanding strat genre. Not sure which Intel graphics you have, they suck to varying degrees, but the source engine plays pretty nice with HD4000+ junk. If you like MOBA games, you might want to give DOTA2 a try.

Do you have a Steam account? If into FPS then TF2 is free and uses the source engine and is somewhat playable on less than HD resolutions with an HD4000+ Intel.

It depends on how much you want to delve back into the golden age of gaming. If you liked Fallouts, it's logical to play Planescape: Torment, Arcanum, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. For a Mass Effect alternative, have a look at Knights of the Old Republic (which is basically a more witty predecessor of ME). Maybe you should try Thief: The Dark Project (or the two older Thief games).

The IGP he has is equal or worse than an HD2000 or HD2500. I'm guessing he had a G620 Pentium but I'm not sure.

Even the source engine games would probably have to be in windowed mode at low resolutions.

OP, you should throw something cheap like a 7750/7770 in there if you can afford it. I'm not very familiar with the best bang for your buck on the budget end.

There are loads of retro games out there but you really need to give us a better idea on what type of game you enjoy.

For me, RPG games are the thing. From that perspective:

Legend of Grimlock
Baldur's Gate: EE (or even BG classic with Tutu)
Temple of Elemental Evil (with the Co8 patch)
KoTor 1-2
Morrowind

any of the above might work. But if you are selling off TV and gaming system to pay rent, should you be spending time gaming that could be better spent finding a (second??) job?

Agree. However, older games I played on Win 7 64:
Prince of Persia SOT, original Painkiller, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, FEAR 1, HALO 1

Quake, Doom, Unreal? Assuming you haven't played those already or you're willing to replay them, I'd try Wolfenstein too if first person shooters are really within your interest.

What about F.E.A.R. (both 1 and 2 should work)...
...and if you like racing games, check out TrackMania.

I think KotOR is a great choice.

Well if you like the original Fallout Series, and (like me) the original install media is MIA ~ Steam has Fallout 1,2, and Tactics on sale for $5 right now ( for another 24hrs)

I recently played through 2 again, and found it held up well WRT entertainment value.

It's in the same generation as FEAR, which other people have been suggesting.

Just because it's not 20 years old doesn't mean it's recent.

I don't think age matters at all.

A game can be recent but still have a retro style.

I totally agree with Wiseup, but I Bioshock 1/2 are recent games and don't have a retro style so was just asking the question

Baldur's Gate - try the new enhanced one

Warcraft 3 and The Frozen Throne expansion

League of Legends might work on your PC

Quake 2

Try Quake 3 Live it is free

Neverwinter Nights with expansions, try community add ons too

GTA 3

not sure what else would run on the computer that you would like but had fun with these, can't think of any more at the moment

I haven't played the enhanced version of Baldurs Gate, how much better is it and what differences are there?
